Cookie Policy

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device, computer, tablet or phone, when you visit a website. It lets the site remember information about your visit so that later browsing is easier.

Cookies can be set by the site you are visiting, known as first-party cookies, or by third-party services embedded in it, known as third-party cookies.

2. Cookies used on our sites

We run two domains. www.tryhikoo.com is our marketing website, open to everyone, and app.tryhikoo.com is the application, reached after signing in. The table below covers both.

CategoryDescriptionDomainsWho serves them
Strictly necessary cookiesRequired for the service to work. They remember your language, whether your side menu is open, and your cookie choices themselves, the latter for 13 months on the marketing website and 6 months in the application. Technical error tracking belongs here too, on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service stable and secure. You can block these cookies from your browser, but parts of the service will then stop working. They do not require your consent.www.tryhikoo.com, app.tryhikoo.comHikoo, Sentry
Analytics cookiesLet us count visits, see which pages are read and measure loading times, so we can improve the product. In the application they include session replay, which records how you interact with pages. If you refuse them we will not know you came, and we lose the ability to spot what is going wrong. Nothing is set before you agree, and refusal is the default state.www.tryhikoo.com, app.tryhikoo.comUmami, Vercel, PostHog
Marketing cookiesMeasure our advertising campaigns and tie your sign-up back to whatever brought you here, an affiliate or referral link for instance. They store no personal data directly, they rely on an identifier for your browser. If you refuse them, whoever recommended Hikoo to you will not be credited. Nothing is set before you agree.www.tryhikoo.com, app.tryhikoo.comGoogle, Promotekit, Endorsely

2.1. Two services that set nothing

Umami measures traffic on the marketing website with no cookie and no identifier, producing aggregate statistics only. It reads nothing from your device, which is what the consent exemption CNIL grants to strictly necessary audience measurement rests on. It is listed in the table regardless, for transparency.

Sentry, our error tracking service, sets no cookie either. It does send the technical detail of any error you hit, your IP address and your account identifier, so that we can reproduce the problem and fix it. It does not record your sessions. Its servers are located in Germany.

3. Local storage

Alongside cookies, the application uses your browser's local storage for three things :

  • Holding the authentication tokens that keep your session open
  • Remembering your theme preference, light, dark or automatic
  • Keeping the state of your dashboard between visits

This data stays on your device and is sent to no one. It disappears if you clear your browsing data.

4. Managing your preferences

You can change your mind at any time, on either site, and withdrawing consent takes exactly as much effort as giving it.

4.1. From our interfaces

Manage your preferences for this site

On the marketing website, the button above reopens the preferences window. In the application, the same window opens from Settings, Preferences tab, on the Cookie settings row. The first banner only appears once your account exists, never on the sign-in screens, because nothing non-essential loads there.

4.3. What refusing changes

Refusing non-essential cookies stops neither browsing the marketing website nor using the application. Only analytics and campaign attribution stop working.

5. Consent

In line with the ePrivacy Directive and CNIL recommendations, we ask for your consent before setting any cookie that is not strictly necessary for the service to work.

Accepting and refusing take the same number of clicks, no box is pre-ticked, and closing a banner without choosing counts as a refusal. Your choices are kept for 13 months on the marketing website and 6 months in the application, where we follow CNIL's most recent guidance. After that, you are asked again.

6. Retention

Our cookies live for at most 13 months, and the data they allow us to collect is kept no longer than 25 months, in line with CNIL recommendations.

7. Changes

We may amend this policy at any time. The date shown at the top of this page marks the last revision. If a new service or a new category appears, we will ask for your consent again.
